Working on the Railroad, page 4
On May 19, 2009 we reached a major milestone, the boiler for #9 was finished and
ready for its final inspection. The inspector representing the ASME came in and
watched us conduct a hydro test of the boiler. This consisted of plugging all the boiler
connections, filling it with waster and pressurizing it to 150% of working pressure- that's 210 psi
for this boiler. We held it at that pressure as the inspector went over it carefully for any signs of leaks
or problems, then reduced to working pressure of 140 psi. We held it there about an hour while he
continued to look it over very carefully.
Once the hydro was complete he proceed to very carefully examine piles of paper work. A certified
boiler must be made of all certified material, and every item that went into the boiler had
to have a paper trail with vendor info and a statement of the standards it met. This process
started when the boiler was started and was checked at every inspection point.
Finally the inspector was satisfied and allowed Brian to apply the official Stamp
Here Brian carefully lines up the stamp.
And then Brian and Jason examine the stamp
I made this brass builders plate to carry the official stamp and the serial number.
