We entered Yellowstone from the south, and very quickly were in this area of recent fire. We later found that major fires of 1988 had burned through the park, and we saw lots of areas like this where new growth was coming it.
We passed Lewis fals, and of course Bonnie had to walk to it and all around it.
We had a reservation to stay at the Old Faithful Inn, and just minutes after we got there it went off. Its pretty spectacular to see.
We didn't get a good photo of the outside of the inn, but this is an inside shot. Its a very rustic place, it has had some renovation, like a fire sprinkler system, but its mostly as built about 1900.
Following are several photos of various geysers, hot springs, and other smelly, hot, bubbly places. This whole area is loaded with these, and its a kind of spooky place to see. Some of them realy have strong sulphur smells.
We spent most of the morning driving around these areas, but then had a problem. My new Honda has a tire pressure indicator, and it showed a low tire. I checked and found a tire with a drywall screw sticking out of it. We went to one of the major visitor centers, and found a good service area. We got the tire repaired and then headed into the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.
